LUCKNER LAZARD

(1928 -1998)

This Port-au-Prince native started to paint in childhood. From 1945 to 1950, Luckner Lazard studied painting and sculpture at the Centre D’Art. In 1950 he founded the Foyer des Arts Plastiques, then received a scholarship to study in Paris for two years. From 1956 onward, he lived in the U.S. A modem painter and commercial artist, the award-winning Lazard paints scenes from Haitian life cockfights, fishermen, and marchands among them. Numerous exhibitions of his work in the U.S., Mexico, Germany, Spain, France, Cuba, Brazil, the U.S. and other countries are testament to the widespread appreciation of his style.
