LIONEL SAINT ELOI

(1950 - )

This Port-au-Prince native, son of a mason and a seamstress, is an artist of exceptional clevemess. A painter of voodoo ceremonies, he lives in a multi-story, castle-like house with a winding staircase on a hill in the capital- a building as fantastic as the visions he creates on canvas. Saint Eloi is also a sculptor, making whimsical angels out of metal, mirrors, colanders, chains, window screens and other found materials. He had an exhibition of his sculptures at the Foundation Mona Bismarck in February, 1996.
